Make sure to FIRST set the grid.col/grid.row to the cell that must be edited and make sure the grid has focus. Then you can programmatically start inplace editing with grid.ShowInplaceEdit;
grid.Col := yourcolumn;
grid.Row := yourrow;
grid.SetFocus;
grid.ShowInplaceEdit;
